The Insidious Rays
The Insidious Rays are a 5 piece rock band that spans multiple styles of music. Hailing from Bethlehem, PA, The Insidious Rays have been performing since Jan 2001. Originally a 4-track recording project of singer/guitarist Matt Juknevic, the Rays took form as a 3 piece band with Jon Braun on drums and Michael Davidson on bass. Eventually the band’s sound and Juknevic’s writing brought in the addition of David Johnsen on bass, Davidson took on guitar duties and Nick Levinos on keys. After many tours and two album releases ; More Songs About Death, Love, Sex and Death (2003) and Exotic Handshakes (2005). Their explosive live performances have received acclaim from audiences of all demographics, and had attracted the attention of producer Andrew Weiss (Ween, Rollins Band, Butthole Surfers, Yoko Ono, and Grammy winners Caf Tacuba). This relationship led to Weiss recording, mixing and producing the Rays 4th album (Exotic Handshakes, 2005).
After the release of Exotic handshakes and many tours Levinos and Johnsen continued on other musical paths bringing in Jason Hedrington on keys and Seth Juknevic on bass. Hedrington eventually left the group and the Rays carried on as a 4 piece, continuing writing for a new album and touring.
The Insidious Rays played two “final” shows in their hometown of Bethlehem, Pa on Aug. 10, 2007 and the members went on to pursue many new adventures in life and with music.
A handful of pop-up performances after almost 5 years and an unreleased record brings us to The Insidious Rays today.
“These guys may not be from Ireland, but the whiskey, beer and soul are deep within” a very true saying for these Vermont based rockers.
