Maybe you had a bad day, maybe you thought it was unredeemable. Maybe you have a cold and you don’t feel like moving around. Maybe you’re tired, and you think you’re just going to have a quick drink and head home. Maybe you fancy yourself someone who watches a concert quietly from the back, attentively listening. Maybe you’re a mother who’s only here because your daughter needed a ride. Maybe you’re a seventy-year-old man who walks with a cane.
In a few seconds, it’s not going to matter who you are.
When the Balkan-inspired, circusy sound of Bella’s Bartok hits your ears, you are no longer in control. You are out of your seat and you’re bouncing up and down, and soon your arms are flailing and you’re smiling and screaming. Your bad day, your cold, your fatigue have all vanished, and it’s not even the end of the first song.
Bella’s Bartok makes everyone dance, regardless. From living rooms to concert halls, alleyways to weddings, the band’s energy makes getting up and moving irresistible. Without fail, someone from the audience comes up after every single show and says the same thing: “I couldn’t help it.”
Bella’s Bartok brings the desperate wail of the blues, the melodic timbre of a choir and the block-rocking beats of your favorite Hungarian dance hall. Seven piece, multi-instrumentalist groove-making extra-ordinaires from Northampton, MA.
Funky Dawgz Brass Band
The Funky Dawgz Brass Band is exploding onto the live music scene not just in their home state of Connecticut but also across the region and even down in New Orleans. This 10-piece funky groove machine is loaded with high-energy horns and a backbeat that is irresistibly funky. This summer they blew audiences away at Gathering of the Vibes, on the main stage of the Norwalk Oyster Festival, and at many well-known venues in New York City, Boston, Providence, Hartford, and New Orleans just to name a few. They are taking the music of New Orleans to a whole new level, playing traditional New Orleans R&B, rocking their original music, and adding a brass twist to today’s top hits.
The Funky Dawgz recently immersed themselves in the music and culture of the New Orleans, performing with the likes of Trombone Shorty, the Rebirth Brass Band, Glen David Andrews, the TBC Brass Band, and members of the Soul Rebels Brass Band.
The band is made up of students from the University of Connecticut; each one of them has also participated in the UConn Marching Band. When they’re not playing shows they are giving back to the community. They were originally formed as a vehicle to connect, engage, inspire and rejuvenate music education in Connecticut’s inner city schools. They frequently give performances and master classes to young musicians in elementary, middle, and high schools across the state.
