VILLANELLES is an indie-rock band from Burlington, Vermont. They play an eclectic collection of songs, written over their 8 years together, inspired by life, love, chaos and melody. The band started as Tristan Baribeau (guitar/vocals), Evan Borden (bass), Zane Gundersen (keys/vocals) and Seth Gundersen(drums/vocals). In 2010, they released the self-titled debut album VILLANELLES , which was recorded in a basement and self-released on CD, and were also crowned “Best New VT Band” by local newspaper Seven Days. In 2011, their live-recorded KISS MY GRITS EP also became a favorite among Vermont indie-rock and punk fans.
In July of 2012, the band recorded their second full length album, BLUE HEART ATTACK, although it took nearly three years for the recordings to come to fruition. During that three years, in which life, love, chaos and melody took precedent, but in a different light, bass player Evan Borden married the love of his life, and moved onto greener pastures. Now, with the addition of John Rogone on bass, the band is back and finally poised to release BLUE HEART ATTACK, their loud and sprawling, beautifully chaotic, sophomore album.
In 2016, Invisible Homes will release the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut album. The first single, “All Your Basis, shows them pushing the concept of their debut into new spaces, exploring new wave, shoe gaze, and 80s-tinged electro funk.
Comparing the band to Arcade Fire, Antibalas, My Morning Jacket, Dinosaur Jr. and Wilco, critics immediately hailed the first record, Song for My Double. Seven Days named it one of the top 10 Vermont Records of 2014, writing, “Every second of Song for My Double makes you rethink the limits of pop music” and Angelica Music declared, “Invisible Homes, very suddenly, might become your favorite band.” The Bob Edwards Show (NPR/SiriusXM) deemed the first single, “Little Song,” “Nearly a perfect pop effort.”
Their performances are shaped by sonic precision, capturing studio creations down to the last warbling synth line, and the dynamics of an experienced live band.
